The Flash Actor Robbie Amell: The Importance of Persistence and Support

Robert Piper: What inspires you in life?
Robbie Amell: A lot of my inspiration comes from the movies and TV, watching other people doing things that I one day hope to have the opportunity to do. The other sides would be my friends and family, people who have supported me and always been there for me. I want to do a good job for them and show them they were right for believing in me.

RP: How do you stay healthy?
RA: A lot of days in the gym. I try to get to the gym at least a few times a week, hopefully more. I also play hockey in a pickup league. I grew up playing, so it’s nice to get on the ice whenever I can. With all that said, everyone should have cheat days or days off. You need to balance the unhealthy with the healthy.

RP: What has been one of the hardest obstacles you’ve had to overcome in your life?
RA: Getting my foot in the door. It’s hard to get into the specifics of it, but every actor needs someone to take a chance on them. Luckily, I didn’t get too beaten up before someone gave me a shot, but there were times when I was living on friends’ couches and eating five-dollar subs from Subway almost every meal. My friends and family definitely helped me with the biggest obstacle in my life, which was just staying in L.A. long enough to really give it a shot.

RP: What kind of research goes into preparing for a role?
RA: It depends on the role. I haven’t had the opportunity to go Christian Bale on a role yet and shed forty pounds, but I like to do my research, get in the right mental state for the person I’ll be portraying. A lot of time, it’s just incorporating a lot of what that person would be into, into my daily routine.

RP: Any new projects that you’re working on?
RA: I’m shooting more episodes on The CW’s The Flash. I’ll be doing press for my new movie, The DUFF, which hits theaters February 20, as well as a movie, where I play a marine called Max, that will come out January 30.
