‘Resident Evil’ Reboot: Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, Hannah John-Kamen, Neal McDonough and more to star in origin story adaptation

DEADLINE.COM: Constantin Film has set in motion a new adaptation to add to the ever-expanding Resident Evil movie franchise. Constantin and writer-director Johannes Roberts said Tuesday that have conceived an official origin story adaptation with faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games. This story is set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City.

Starring in the roles of the iconic game characters will be Maze Runner‘s Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences, said Roberts, the filmmaker behind shark thriller 47 Meters Down and its sequel.

Franchise producer Robert Kulzer will produce again on behalf of Constantin with James Harris from Tea Shop Productions and Hartley Gorenstein.

Said Kulzer, “After a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spenser Mansion and Raccoon City.”

Wattpad And Collective Pictures Developing ‘Float’, Robbie Amell To Produce And Star

Wattpad And Collective Pictures Developing ‘Float’, Robbie Amell To Produce And Star

DEADLINE.COM: Wattpad and Collective Pictures are teaming up to develop Float based on the story written by Kate Marchant on the Wattpad social storytelling platform.

Robbie Amell (Code 8, Upload) is set to star and produce the project alongside Collective Pictures’ Jeff Chan, Chris Paré and Sarah Timmins. Wattpad’s Aron Levitz and Jamie D. Greenberg will also produce while the company’s CEO Allen Lau will serve as an executive producer. This marks a reunion for Amell and Chan, who worked together on the Netflix feature Code 8.

Here’s the logline: After her parents’ messy divorce, Waverly finds herself yanked from her comfortable life in Alaska to spend the summer in her aunt’s sunny beach town. If this paradigm shift wasn’t jarring enough, Waverly quickly begins to clash with one of her new neighbors and the polar opposite of everything she represents: an arrogant, jaded, beach bum named Blake. Try as she might to avoid him, however, she finds fitting in with her new beachside community just as difficult thanks to the teeny-tiny, embarrassing secret that she can’t swim. That is until her new nemesis, who happens to be the town lifeguard, offers to teach her.

Wattpad has become a popular epicenter for user-generated stories from amateur and established writers. It is known for its data-driven approach to finding and developing entertainment. The company’s Story DNA Machine Learning Technology allows it to find stories with exceptional potential among the nearly one billion uploads on the platform. Float has accumulated over 25.5 million reads from fans all over the world, becoming one of Wattpad’s top teen fiction titles. Other Wattpad stories that were adapted into features include After and The Kissing Booth.

Wattpad and Collective Pictures (fka Colony Pictures) are leading the industry in new models for success built around fan engagement. For Code 8, Collective Pictures raised $2.4 million from more than 30,000 supporters. The campaign was the second largest original film crowdfunding campaign of all time across all platforms.

Two years after defeating a satanic cult led by his babysitter Bee, Cole continues to be haunted by the horrific events of that night. Everyone in his life thinks he has lost his mind since Bee and all of her friends disappeared, making Cole’s story hard to believe. He is still hopelessly smitten with his best friend and next door neighbor Melanie – the only one who believes his story – who convinces him to forget the past and come to a party thrown at a nearby lake. But when old enemies unexpectedly return, Cole will once again have to outsmart the forces of evil and survive the night.
