Robbie Amell was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with his sister. Growing up, he played hockey alongside acting. While in high school, he booked a supporting role in Cheaper By The Dozen 2 as one of the eldest Murtaugh kids. He went on to have a guest role on Life With Derek, in which would become a recurring role playing Casey's boyfriend named Max.
